Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte
Seurat spent two years painting the picture, focusing scrupulously on the landscape of the park. He remade several times the original and complete numerous sketches and preliminary schemes. He often sat in the gardens and made numerous sketches of the various figures in order to perfect them. He took special care in the use of color, light and form. The picture is about 2 x 3 m. It was first exhibited in the eighth Impressionist group exhibition group in 1886.
