A tourist in New York City with photo camera. Chelsea Market
La zona de Chelsea se está convirtiendo en un nuevo lugar de atracción para los turistas por dos motivos principales como son el Chelsea Market y el Museo Whitney.
Estas fotos recogen el ambiente interior de dicho mercado.
Chelsea Market is a food hall, shopping mall, office building and television production facility located in the Chelsea neighborhood of the borough of Manhattan, in New York City. It was built in the former National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) factory complex where the Oreo cookie was invented and produced.
Chelsea Market lies within the Gansevoort Market Historic District, created by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission in 2003.
Designed by architect Renzo Piano, the new building includes
approximately 50,000 square feet of indoor galleries and 13,000 square
feet of outdoor exhibition space and terraces facing the High Line. An
expansive gallery for special exhibitions is approximately 18,000 square
feet in area, making it the largest column-free museum gallery in New
York City. Additional exhibition space includes a lobby gallery
(accessible free of charge), two floors for the permanent collection,
and a special exhibitions gallery on the top floor.
According to Mr. Piano, “The design for the new museum emerges equally from a close study of the Whitney’s needs and from a response to this remarkable site.
